#83 San Francisco

Start: KCVO, 0638; $4647.49 and 16gal

Today, I'm starting a short vacation! My next destination is San Francisco, and I'm going to spend a few days exploring that wonderful city.

But first, I have to get there. It's just far enough that I'd prefer for the trip to pay for itself, so I'll take a less-than-direct route, 'cause that's where the customers want to go!

I'm starting out in the wrong direction, taking 3 Glacier Aviation passengers to Portland.

End: KPDX, 0738; $6605.67 and 54gal

Now I'll be headed in the right direction! The main reason I came to Portland was to pick up 1 Elite Air Mechanic who's going to Reno. After a quick stop at the fuel pumps, he's in and we're off.
Portland (not too bad for default FSX auto-gen)
I don't get the GlobeTrotter up to 10,000ft too often (it's easier with one passenger than with three). A nice smooth ride this morning.

For the last leg of the day, I'm taking 2 Elite Air passengers to San Francisco. I hope they enjoy their trip as much as I will!

I probably should have gotten some add-on scenery -- I'm really hoping they've done San Francisco proud.

#79 Calgary #80 Banff #81 Vancouver #82 Seattle

Start: CYEG, 0724; $2296.31 and 27gal

Another $10,000 to the bank!

I'm oddly excited about today's flights. Maybe I'm still dopey from yesterday's 15 hour marathon. Maybe I'm goofy from only getting about 5 hours of sleep. But today, my first flight will be to take 95kg of Priority Mail to Vulcan (after getting some shots of Edmonton)! If that makes me a nerd, so be it -- I'm excited that I'm flying my virtual Cessna SkyHawk to Vulcan!

That is, of course, assuming that I get to fly at all. I've had some long taxis in my life, but this takes the cake. Twenty-four minutes, I kid you not!! I figure I'm halfway to my destination before I've even gotten to the runway! So, reset my start time to 0748.
Edmonton
The scenery around Vulcan (which I know is just the default FSX stuff) is surprisingly green!
The green, green grass of Vulcan!
End: CFX6, 0941; $2911.91 and 14gal

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Well, it's nice to know that I'm not alone in my appreciation of Vulcan. For this next leg, I am taking 2 Star Trek fans to Calgary! If the green scenery weren't enough, as I'm lining up for take-off, it starts to rain! And the temperature is 40F. Definitely not typical Vulcan weather!

Unfortunately, the lousy weather stays with me. Calgary is completely fogged in. I'm sure I'll be fine for a landing, but photos of the city are going to be nearly worthless. This is the first time in over 40,000 miles and 3 months that I've not gotten good photos of my destination. But, as I get closer to Calgary (and closer to the ground), it clears up a bit. So, I'll do the best I can. I was tempted to cheat and turn off the real-world weather, but this is even better!
Approaching Calgary, in the fog
Downtown Calgary
ATC in Calgary is a bit optimistic. After giving me landing clearance, they also cleared two jets. They were very clear that both jets were to follow me. But, I'm flying slow and low (about 70 kts as I approach the runway), and those two hotshots both shot past me with very little clearance. For their troubles, they both had to go-around -- Ha!
Too close for comfort
End: CYCC, 1035; $3797.26 and 45gal

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Okay, another case of pushing the envelope. I'm in Calgary. I want to see Banff (since I'm so close, and I've been there in real life), and then I want to see Vancouver. But my 3 Business Charter passengers want to go to Oregon. So, I'll just fly an oval instead of a straight line, and they'll be none the worse. Except that with 3 passengers, I can only carry 45 gallons of fuel. And my curving course will be 669 miles. So, I'll be as economical as I can, but there may be an unscheduled stop in our future!
Beautiful Lake Louise, near Banff (even more beautiful in real life)
So, I'm now enroute to Vancouver, at 10,000ft. Getting to that altitude in a Cessna SkyHawk with 3 passengers takes quite a long time, and a lot of fuel. My gauge shows that I have a range of 350. It's 325 miles to Vancouver. So, I think stopping for gas would be a great idea!

I've heard that Vancouver is beautiful. But today it's cloudy and overcast. Again, I'm sure tempted to fiddle with the weather settings.... Then, like last time, a miraculous break in the clouds. And Vancouver IS beautiful, even in FSX!
Vancouver
Stop-over: CYVR, 1523 and 7 gallons

I had planned a very quick stop (almost a touch and go!) to get more fuel, but it turns out I'm at 99.8 hours since my last 100-hour inspection. So, I let my passengers know that we'll be stopping for a late lunch and a chance to stretch our legs, and then we'll be on our way direct to Corvallis. They are an agreeable bunch, so all is well.

The fine folks at PacWest Aviation completed the inspection very quickly. This is actually the same group that installed the autopilot for me, back in this plane's previous life as CHKN-HK (I flew her from Idaho to Scotland just before starting this round-the-world flight!). So, technically, I have now circled the globe in this Cessna 172. But, I didn't officially start this voyage here, but in Yorkshire, England. So, I'll press on -- besides, I've got more sights to see!

So, we're all set for our final leg, which will allow me to pass Seattle on the way to Oregon. Looks like clouds may be an issue again -- they're really thick this afternoon. Plus the sun's going down. So I'm either going to get spectacular Seattle shots, or really crummy ones! Who'd a thought -- cloudy and gloomy in Seattle?!

#77 Yukon #78 Edmonton

Start: PAEI, 0646; $2591.44 and 20gal

Today is going to be a marathon. I've got a lot of ground to cover, and I've found a series of jobs that let me do just that. So, I'm heading off a little before sunrise, because I've got over 13 hours of flying ahead of me!

Things started out wonderfully -- I deposited another $10,000 at the airport's ATM. Then, after prepping the plane, I took off for my first destination -- no jobs heading my way from the air base, so I'm flying solo for this first hour.

End: TSG, 0813; $2479.19 and 40gal

I'll be starting out with 3 Corporate Charter passengers, heading to Whitehorse International. I'm hoping for beautiful Yukon scenery on the way....

There is some nice scenery, but much of it was hidden underneath the fog! Bloody real-time weather!
Looks more like London, or San Francisco!
Luckily, it cleared up later
End: CYXY, 1132; $5030.65 and 25gal
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Whitehorse is rather white! It's a bit hard to tell if it's fog or snow -- it's 32F outside, and it looks pretty wintery. And CYXY is one of those "funny" airports in FSX. It's up on an elevated plateau (boy, that would be expensive to build!), and there's some sort of fence at the end of 13R that really sneaks up on you!
Goofy Whitehorse International (CYXY)
I now have 2 Government Charter passengers going to Watson Lake. That sounds nice!
And it is nice!

Well, this day is a long one, but it's going quite well. I've had great weather, smooth flights, and a good group of (paying!) passengers. So, I'll press on, this time taking 2 ERA passengers to Fort Ware in British Columbia.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

That was a pretty small airfield -- a bit harder to spot from the air than I expected. I think those 2 passengers will be discussing the landing on their way to their final destination -- it was a bit quicker and steeper than I prefer. But, any landing you can walk away from...!

I'll now be taking 3 (different) ERA passengers to Prince George. Since that's a larger airport, I'll just put the past behind me and fly the plane!

End: CYXS, 1924; $9982.43 and 40gal

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

It was a dark and stormy night... Oops, not a good way to start a PIREP!

The sun has set, and I've got some rugged terrain to cross. So, it's IFR for me on this last leg. It's a good thing it's my last leg, because I'm beat. This has been a very long day, with a number of landings, and I'm ready to eat supper and hit the hay. So, I'm loading my 3 Edmonton passengers, trying to act chipper and alert, and I'm off! Photos will have to wait until tomorrow; it sure gets dark around here once the sun goes down!

#76 Denali

Start: PAOM, 0701; $8573.23 and 45gal

I'm off bright and early this morning (well, early anyway -- it's gloomy and raining in Nome right now) with 3 Corporate Charter passengers headed to McGrath. That works out fine for me, because it gets me nearly 300 miles closer to my goal!

Once I get above 3000ft, the skies clear and yesterdays tailwind returns. Things are definitely looking up!

End: PAMC, 1140; $10973.45 and 40gal

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Just a quick stop to exchange my passengers. I now have 3 Military passengers, and they are in for a treat. On our way to Eielson Air Force Base, we will do a slight detour to the south to get a spectacular view of Denali (Mount McKinley).
About as close as I dare to get to Denali!

East to Alaska, part III

Start: UHMA, 0739; $5306.54 and 45 gallons

After the marathon that was yesterday, I'm looking forward to a shorter, easier day today. I'm also looking forward to having paying jobs this time. And finally, I'm looking forward to making it to the good ol', US of A!

My first leg will take 3 pasajeros to Provideniya Bay.

End: UHMD, 1235; $7120.04 and 25gal

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

My next leg will not be so terribly different -- I'm taking 3 pasajeros to Nome. I probably should have added fuel; now that I'm aloft, I find I've got a 22kt headwind. I guess I'll just use my time machine -- since I'm crossing the international date line, I'll actually be landing way before I took off!

End: PAOM, 1522; $8909.24 and 6gal
